Introduction

Yeast cell walls, especially Saccharomyces cerevisiae, are an important source of nutrition for livestock and poultry. Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) and beta-glucans are two important compounds found in the cell walls of these yeasts that have significant effects on gut health, immune system, and growth performance. These compounds play a role in various biological processes such as stimulating immune responses, improving nutrient digestion, and reducing intestinal pathogens.

Therefore, the study of mannan-oligosaccharides and beta-glucans is important in evaluating the quality of yeast cell walls and their impact on animal health and performance.

Mannan-oligosaccharides
Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) are chains of simple sugars that are commonly found in yeast cell walls.

Function of mannan-oligosaccharides:
Binding with pathogen receptors
Preventing pathogens from binding to intestinal cells
Role in intestinal health
Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS) act as a prebiotic and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria in the intestine. This action improves intestinal health and reduces the microbial load of the intestine.
Effect on animal performance:

The use of MOS in livestock and poultry diets helps to improve growth and increase feed conversion ratio (FCR). It also helps to reduce the use of antibiotics and increase disease resistance.

Beta-glucans
Beta-glucans are polysaccharides found in the cell walls of yeasts and some plants. These compounds are chain structures of glucose that play a role in stimulating the immune system in particular.
Function of beta-glucans
Role in the immune system
Beta-glucans act as immune system agonists and can bind to specific receptors on immune cells, which stimulates the immune response and increases resistance to diseases.

Positive effect on livestock performance
Beta-glucans can help reduce intestinal inflammation and improve nutrient absorption. As a result, livestock performance and health are improved.

Importance of examining the content of MOS and beta-glucan in the wall of live yeast:

Evaluation of yeast wall quality

To evaluate the quality of the yeast wall, the content of oligosaccharides and beta-glucans present in the yeast cell wall is examined. The high percentage of these compounds in the yeast cell wall may indicate the high quality of the yeast wall as well as its increased effectiveness in improving gut health, growth performance, gut microbiota, and immunity in the animal body.

Extended Abstract

Introduction: The use of growth promoters in poultry feed has gained great importance after the ban on antibiotics by the European Union, the use of alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters has gained great importance in order to improve the health and production performance of poultry.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of adding the cell wall of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, including beta-glucan and mannan oligosaccharide (MOS), to the diet of broiler chickens on production performance, blood parameters, intestinal tissue morphology, and cecal microflora.

Materials and Methods: In this study, 252 one-day-old chicks of Ross 308 strain were randomly selected and divided into seven treatments, each treatment containing 6 replications. Treatments included a control group (no additive) and groups with different levels of 0.05, 0.125, 0.250, 0.500, 0.1 and 0.2 g MOS+BG per kg basal diet for 35 days.

Results: In most experimental periods, the group that received 0.1 g MOS+BG per kg basal diet had the highest body weight and weight gain, the lowest feed intake and the best feed conversion ratio compared to other groups. Also, this group showed the best production performance throughout the entire period.

Adding 0.1 g/kg MOS+BG had no significant effect on carcass percentage compared to the control group. However, this additive level reduced the number of Escherichia coli and Enterococcus bacteria and increased the population of Lactobacillus in the cecum, and the number of yeasts was also higher than the control group.

The group receiving 0.1 g MOS+BG also had the lowest blood cholesterol levels, while liver function was not significantly different in all treatments. The highest percentage of blood hemoglobin was also observed in the group receiving 0.1 g/kg of this compound.

In the groups receiving 0.1 and 0.2 g MOS+BG, the length of intestinal villi increased and the observed tissue damage was very low.

Overall conclusion: In general, the addition of 0.1 g MOS+BG per kg of feed in broilers improved growth performance, blood parameters and increased beneficial bacteria in the cecum.

Chitacell chitica yeast cell wall

The yeast cell wall accounts for approximately 25% of the weight of the living yeast cell, which contains mannan oligosaccharide and beta-glucan. Mannan oligosaccharide and beta-glucan do not have the ability to absorb micronutrients and nutrients due to their uncharged nature. However, these compounds with their helical structure have a very high level of absorption with mycotoxins. The most important role of the yeast cell wall is as an adsorbent of toxins in livestock and poultry feed. Ultimately, it improves livestock health. Yeast cell wall oligosaccharides with prebiotic function and antimicrobial effects play a role as growth stimulants in modulating the immune system.
