Production Process
Activated carbon is derived from burning coconut shells, walnut shells, bone charcoal, coal, or petroleum coke. When these materials are heated in an oxygen-free environment at high temperatures, their internal structure transforms, resulting in activated carbon with significantly more porous surfaces and microstructures compared to regular charcoal.
The “activation” process enhances the carbon’s adsorption properties, enabling negatively charged ions to be attracted to the positively charged carbon surface. Types of Activated Carbon
Activated carbon is available in three forms:
